This plain jane soprano uke puts out a lot of sweet sound. Mario Maccaferri was a noted designer of instruments and parts, and set out to incorporate plastics into musical instruments in the forties. In the fifties he created a line of plastic ukes and guitars that provided real musical properties at very low prices.

Note the zero fret and the clear evidence of plenty of playing.

The tuning pegs are the weakest link on this uke. They'll barely hold tune and I'm afraid to tighten them too much for fear of stressing the plastic or further damaging the screw heads.

My picture of the back really is poor, because it gives no hint of the complex swirls of colored styron plastic. In real life this is a lovely little instrument. The neck is a bit clunky, but still quite playable.
