This is the first slack key piece I've written. I came up with the idea while playing my Larrivee Parlor in the Oakland Airport, on the way to O`ahu. By the time we'd spent a few days on Waialua Beach Front Road, I had stretched the idea enough to record a version. This mp3 opens and closes with excerpts from that recording, with the Pacific swooshing ashore in the background. When I got home I cleaned things up, developed a regular structure, and recorded the new version on my PC recording rig.
This one was written by Patrick Landeza, who plays and teaches slack key in the San Francisco Bay Area. He told me the song was inspired by the announcement bells on a monorail people mover in an East Coast airport. The chimes in the middle of the piece imitate those bells.
