Roma

Our first stop was Roma, where we visited a few of the many points of interest. Our hotel was near the edge of the city, so we used public transit to get to the central city each day.

The square in front of the Vatican - beautiful weather and not at all crowded. Our early arrival probably helped.

Lynn said something about a family resemblance.

The Vatican museum was a bit overwhelming. It contains art and history worthy of several lifetimes of study, so our few hours of gawking left us simply in awe.

Each piece deserves extensive study, but the beauty comes through even to the untrained eye.

A hot tub fit for an emperor.

These statues and the marble tub are in the modestly named "Round Room," part of one of two Galleries of Sculpture.

The Piazza Navona is one of Lynn's favorite stops in Roma. We ate at Tre Scalini, a place she first visited 20 years ago.

The Pantheon, and a taste of gelato.

The Trevi fountain.

The Spanish Steps, with Fran hidden in the crowd. It's later in the day and the tourist busses have unloaded some of their cargo.

Ceasar's Forum is being excavated in the heart of the city.

On the south side of the Piazza Venezia is the National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a united Italy.
